Here is what Simon Plouffe wrote and I fully agree: The book is a < hit > in France and I can understand why. Jean-Paul Delahaye wrote over 100 articles and he is a regular columnist for the magazine Pour La Science which is the french version of Scientific American. He has the unique talent to explain in ordinary words advanced concepts and ideas. I think that he wrote the book on Pi with a bit of passion and real interest : and we can feel that interest and passion through the book. The book begins with an historical survey of the computation of Pi and develops further on different aspects about the digits of Pi, new algorithms (including the BBP algorithm). There is a chapter about ideas around Chiatin, computation and logic and what represents an infinity of digits and the concept of a number like Pi, this part is quite fascinating to read. [...] I would say that he writes in a very precise way, simple, exact and direct. I recommend that book strongly. In my opinion it is a classic book, a must read book on Pi. Certainly the best book ever written on that subject.

Comment by 2110: J\'ai dévoré ce livre pendant les grandes vacances 2007, c\'est bien mieux qu\'un roman ! Et plus besoin d\'allumer l\'ordi pour trouver les \"premières\" décimales de Pi, il y a en a 10.000 en fin d\'ouvrage :) Bref, il ne mérite pas le 0.50/5 que je vois actuellement, c\'est pourquoi je lui donne 5/5 ! non mais ! 2110, 18 ans, élève de prépa (MP)

A Bible ! yes, absolutely, everything in this book announces the arrival of Pi-God ! :-) However, this is only for amateur mathematicians... a very good level is required. If you like maths, that's a delightful book because all along it, you feel like any stuff in analysis can derive from the ideas in this book

Comment by F: Un livre magnifique. La trame principale est la démonstration des étonnantes formules de pi à convergences quadratique ou plus. Mais comme si cela ne suffisait pas, le livre est également prétexte à distiller tout un pan de culture mathématique : les auteurs prennent le temps de montrer de multiples résultats connexes, de les placer dans leur contexte historique, d\'étudier comment exploiter algorithmiquement ces formules, ... De très loin le meilleur livre de math qu\'il m\'ait été donné de lire.

One of the most well-known books about Pi. Yet, I'm not fund of Pi, I find "Le Fascinant Nombre Pi" (see on this page) much better for instance. Still, it is a highly recommendable book, full of stories and anecdotes.

That's a pretty odd book. For Pi fans, that's the best in mathematics insofar as all original papers and texts about Pi are thoroughly gathered. A reference book. For the reader not utterly fascinated by mathematics history, that's much less useful.

Hauchecorne was my teacher in "classes préparatoires" (intensive math courses after high school), he really was a funny guy always ready for an anecdote about the mathematician that we were dicussing the theorem of. Also, this book is excellent, you open a page then another and you soon got stuck into it !
